A1 German course for beginners - Elementary language use
Requirements
You do not need any previous knowledge to take part in the German Intensive Course level A1 at our educational institution. You start right from the beginning.
Course structure & Our methodology
For beginners the first priority is to listen to the language. Simple words are heard and attempts are made to repeat them. Only then does the differentiation of individual words and learning the meanings of the individual words follow.
The teacher's pronunciation is therefore of particular importance at the beginning, which is why our teachers, especially in the initial phase, take on a role model function that we are aware of as an educational institution. We pay attention to a clear and distinct intonation of the words, a varied sentence melody and an activation of the learners to enable a successful learning process.
After learning a basic vocabulary in the first weeks, learners can also learn and develop the written language. Thus, the basic requirements for reading and writing the language are fulfilled. Most non-native speakers already have experience with the Latin alphabet. Those who do not know the Latin alphabet still have the chance to learn the language successfully in the A1 intensive course. We have a large repertoire of methods, from video-based learning methods, image links, imitation and imitation of sounds, which can help all learners to access the language.
Depending on previous multilingual knowledge, e.g. about other foreign languages, age, level of education and knowledge of the Latin alphabet, learning learners can be guided to writing competence faster or slower. It is important to us that all learners feel equally comfortable and can develop and develop at a comfortable and not overloaded level.
Language level at the end of the course
After completing this course you will be able to communicate in everyday situations with simple language skills. For example, say and write your name and place of residence, ask them for directions or a place to go, dealing with a visit to a doctor or the authorities. Our educational institution is based on the skill descriptions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), so that at the end of the course our students can register individual names and words and simple sentences, understand and classify signs, posters and brochures thematically. If the participants speak clearly and slowly, they can hear and understand familiar words and sentences. They can also write short and simple sentences themselves, such as greetings on a postcard, fill in forms and write short messages. After the course, learners will be able to communicate with a conversation partner using isolated and elementary expressions if a simple language is used and the conversation partner is willing to repeat what is said. They can ask and answer everyday questions and talk about familiar topics.
Your vocabulary is about 500 words.
Final Examination & Certificate
At the end of the course you will write an internal examination of the educational institution based on the Goethe-Institut examinations. You will also write a short test every week to check your language level. In this way we ensure that you pass the final examination. These are included in the course fees.
You also have the option of taking a telc Deutsch A1 / Start Deutsch exam, although this involves additional costs. You can find more information about the telc examinations on our homepage.

We believe that learning a language is not only about acquiring vocabulary and grammatical knowledge, but that learning a language always means immersion in the respective culture. For this reason, we place great emphasis on teaching our language students not only the necessary language skills, but also the German culture. With this in mind, we encourage encounters with the local population and are therefore happy to provide information about language cafés, ( sports ) clubs, etc. and organise trips on request.
Especially as a language school in a city like Duisburg with its high percentage of migrants, we feel obliged to support our language students in thinking and acting in a cosmopolitan, culturally open-minded and solidary way. The focus should not only be on the language deficits of the participants, but also on the different lifeworlds of people from different migration backgrounds, which should be perceived by all participants as equal and with the same appreciation.
Our teachers and secretarial staff therefore see themselves not only as language mediators but also as "bridge builders" between people of different cultures.
