"The school’s welcoming environment and expert instruction combined to provide a most valuable experience."

David Spizale, student from USA

I arrived at Amalelingue with some rudimentary background in the Italian language. My previous experiences had been eight to ten years prior and as a U.S. resident had little opportunity to practice what little I knew. The staff at Amalelingue had immediate insight into my language level and configured a program consistent with my needs. At 73 years old I was purposely pushing my comfort zone and was grateful for the consideration given to me. I was impressed with the school’s facilities and attention to detail. The location was excellent and easy to find on a central artery in Genova.
I made my own living accommodations through Airbnb. My apartment was within easy walking distance to class. The residence was comfortable, although I had some difficulty climbing 66 stairs to my upper level living space (there was no elevator) and with luggage (and w/ out) access was tiresome. Genoa has many small circuitous streets which also made my rental hard to find and some distance from taxi service. (I will be more conscious of these issues in the future.
I was traveling alone which made activities after class completely up to me. This had advantages and disadvantages.
In sum, I had a fine experience and learned, in every way, a great deal about the culture through the language.

Grazie David! You've been a precious student to us!

"Ich habe mich jeden morgen auf die Schule gefreut!"

Ursula Pfister, student from Switzerland

Thank you very much, Monika! It's been an enormous pleasure to meet you!

"Amalelingue is as exquisite as its location next to San Lorenzo, the Genoa Cathedral in the historic center."

Brigitte Aregger

I feel very comfortable at Amale. The atmosphere is familiar and professional at the same time. Strict attention is paid to ensuring that everyone in a class is at a similar level. The topics to be covered are tailored to the students and individual questions are always addressed. The social aspect is also taken care of. The wonderful teachers arrange a dinner for everyone or you go to the movies together.

I was only at the school for one week, but I would love to study there for three months or more, because for me there is no better school than Amalelingue and no better city than Genova to improve my Italian.

"Heartily welcome and inspired by its friendly teachers."

Peter Dobler

I arrived in Genova just before the Corona pandemic hit Italy in March 2020, had to return back home to Germany just after ten days but then came back in September to spend four lovely weeks in and around Genova. This city by the sea is just perfect for a longer stay: it is not too big and not too small, its architecture and sites comprise various centuries of Italian history, it offers all kinds of activities and if you are into hiking and swimming it is the place-to-be! Unfortunately there weren't many cultural activities I could enjoy due to Covid-19 and so I had more time to explore the city, the coastal landscape and the urban and rural hinderland. It surely is a place of many returns!

I booked a combination of an individual course and a course in groups. Due to the pandemic I only had individual lessons all the way through and I enjoyed it very much because the teachers respond to your level, to your qualities and to your interests. It is a very intensive and effective way of learning the language and of getting to know the Italian way of life. Forget about your mother tongue and plunge into Italian as much as you can!

I had an Airbnb-like accommodation nicely located close to the city center and the school. Living with Italians or in an Italian family offers you the chance to practice what you've just learned and to get some hints concerning the hidden treasures of the city. Before booking an accommodation make sure that your hosts like to communicate with you so you do not end up in a purely bed & breakfast location.

"Sounds strange, but: best time ever in school!"

Judith

Amalelingue is the best place to learn Italian. The school is located in the centre of the city with a direct view of the cathedral. Rosita and Paola convey the great experience of learning a foreign language with fun and many small and larger successes. They also give practical tips on how and where to explore interesting places outside the school.
Genoa is full of them, by the way.

For me, Amalelingue is the best place to learn a language, in this case Italian, and I will definitely come back there to continue. The warmth that awaits you there, in combination with the teachers' know-how, the small groups and the pleasant atmosphere are convincing in every respect!
