Course description

Family study holiday in the heart of London. Courses for children aged 6 - 16 and optional courses for parents and other family members. We can arrange accommodation in homestays, residences, studios and apartments and the whole family can enjoy an activity programme. Programmes available in Spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Location - Parents and their children study in the same locations. The summer programme takes place in our Belgravia school, near Victoria station. The winter, spring and autumn programmes take place in our Kensington school, opposite Gloucester Road station.

Ages - Children of ages 6-16 are accepted. In summer, a parent or guardian of a 6 year old must also take a course. At other times of the year they must either take a course or remain in the school during lesson times. The minimum age for adult in charge is 21.

Private Lessons and Mini Groups - After group classes, we can also arrange private lessons for children, to concentrate on particular skill or language area. We can also offer private lessons and Mini Group tuition for children at other times of the year. Please ask for more details.

Trinity Spoken English Test - Children and adults on a course of 2 weeks or more in the summer have the option to take a Trinity Spoken English test, an internationally recognised examination, suitable for all levels.

Your Free Time - Classes are in the mornings - families are free in the afternoons to enjoy London's attractions and to take part in a special activity programme, 2 or 3 days a week.

Family junior morning - This fun course is designed for young learners. The emphasis is on spoken English and communication. Imaginative activities and group project work encourage speaking and rapid learning and there is a visit to local place of interest or sports on Friday afternoon in Hyde Park.

Family adult morning - While their children are at school, parents and other family members have the option of taking a course at Frances King. Our adult programmes focus on spoken English and there is also concentrated language skills practice.

Family junior day school - This all day programme is for ages 12- 17 in summer. Participants join the Family Junior Morning Course and in the afternoon there are activities, excursions and projects. Children should be dropped off at 8:45 and collected at 17:00. Students must bring a packed lunch and a travel card.

"So far I can say that I´ve done a right choice"

Pedro Antonio Caetano, student from Angola

Dear all,

I would like to thank everyone I met so far, teachers, classmates, guide of extra activities, staff of school and so on. This course has been a good experience for me and I expect when its ends up I can feel more confident to put in practice everything I am learning.

Once I have just done two weeks of course I think I need more time for may improvement and I expect in this three weeks left I can learn more.

The school has experienced teachers and the facility also are very comfortable.
For while I have no complaint.

Best regards

"An amazing useful experience"

Reema Bawazeer, student from Saudi Arabia

It was a great experience. The teachers were perfect and they explained very well and also the classes were good.
However, the level of each student was not that perfect because I think the online test is not accurate. This is the only issue I found. The atmosphere is good. Everything was amazing.
I would like to register again next year.

"Not so useful"

Giovanna Lombardi, student from Italy

The location was good for the position. The school for adult courses lacked everything (laboratory, information, materials). I hadn't had a proper test at my arrival, so I attended the first week course in the wrong level. The teachers didn't use the same methods. Actually, it seemed they didn't even have a method.

The children's courses were better. My daughter enjoyed the class and loved the teacher.

"3 months + 8 weeks IELTS course"

Matteo Breviglieri

I was in London last summer with Frances King and attended a course of General English and exam preparation (IELTS). I went alone without friend but it wasn’t a problem at all.

The thing I liked the most was my class! We were 12 students from 10 different countries!
The teachers were very good at teaching, and they were kind and nice. They also were very important for my IELTS, because without all their tips and advice I might have failed the exam.

I was in a student residence (half board). The room was fine but the food most of the time wasn't good.
Anyway I really enjoyed spending time there and I met a lot of new friends.

I wish to come back next summer :)

Moreover, my host family was kind to me and i felt comfortable all the time.

You can enjoy the comforts of a private home and immerse yourself in English life and culture. It is also the most cost-effective way of staying in London, with home cooking, pleasant conversation and comfortable surroundings.

Please note that we have a variety of homestays which may not always consist of a “traditional” family, i.e. mother, father and children, therefore you may expect to find a single person, or a retired couple, or a single parent with children. These types of hosts are equally as good, and can provide excellent hospitality to students.

Travel time to Frances King Centres: About 20 – 45 minutes* by bus, underground or train.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from . Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged £ 45 when you register.
