Academia Hispanica IH Cordoba
The General Intensive course is our most popular course. Designed for students who want to maximize their language learning practice during their stay. Two lessons in grammar skills and 2 lessons focused on communication skills. These lessons provide the opportunity to learn the local culture and customs.
The classes stress the use of language in everyday situations. In 2 lessons each day, students will work on grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary, while in the other 2 lessons, they will focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening. Textbooks and a variety of other materials are used in instruction, including role-playing, newspapers, magazines and other materials. Topics include: fluency practice, media studies, film and theater, local culture, current events, politics, and research using the internet. Intermediate and advanced students also have the option of studying in the test-preparation and business classes. After classes there are conversation and video lessons and one-to-one tuition weekly, all included in the price. Every Friday students are invited to go out with other groups and teachers before lunchtime.
If there is only one student for a given level, the number of lessons per week will be reduced to 10 instead of 20.

IH Cordoba was founded in 1953 and was the first school of the International House organization. International House is a world leader in the field of language services and teacher education. It has 150 members over 50 countries and provides the most advanced methodology to ensure more direct, communicative and effective language teaching.
IH Academia Hispanica Cordoba is located in the city center, in a 2-floor Andalusian style with a beautiful patio decorated with plants and flowers. 22 classrooms with natural light from the street or the patio. The use of technology in the classroom is very important for the school so there are interactive whiteboards, iPads, Apple-TV, library, library, media room and free WiFi access for students.
All our teachers are native Spanish, university graduates and trained professionals who have completed the specific course of International House for the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. The maximum number of students in intensive courses is 6, which allows the relationship between students and teachers. This interaction is increased in weekly one-to-one tuition classes available to students and the meeting outside the schools between teachers and students. All classes are held in the mornings, leaving the afternoons for social activities of the school program.
The school also has a 24-hour telephone line to address any issues that may have our students.
The nationality and age mix at Academia Hispanica IH Cordoba varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 30. In the summer, the average age is 23.
Academia Hispanica teaches students from all over the world, including:
Academia Hispanica does not hold classes on the holiday dates below. The school does not compensate for these holidays, so make sure to choose your start date accordingly.
The school is located where the old quarter and the commercial town centre meet, so both the main monuments and essential services are within walking distance. The building is a traditional two-floor Andalusian house, with a central courtyard decorated with plants and flowers, which the classrooms look onto. As well as 18 light, fully-equipped classrooms, there is a library, self-access centre, video room, and multimedia room. Students have free access to the Internet.
I completed a short course in Córdoba and enjoyed the experience. It was the first formal Spanish course I had taken, and I appreciated the small classes. We had a maximum of 4, but an average of 3. This meant we had many opportunities to speak and practice.
The location is very central and easy to find. Classrooms are functional, but work for their purpose. Maybe some adults might not enjoy the classroom feel. It would be good to have the opportunity to use the facilities after class finished, but in the lunch break the center closed.
In the time I was there, there were no formal activities. I think organising at least one activity per week would provide a greater chance to interact in Spanish, and ease the transition from classroom to real life.
Teachers encouraged us to speak. It would be good to have an overview of roughly what would be covered in the week. I appreciate the need to be flexible depending on student abilities and needs, but a basic outline might help focus. Overall, they provided good real life scenarios, but it would be good to also spend time working on scenarios for day-to-day like travel and small talk.
Overall, my experience was positive and I enjoyed the week.
I have been to a few schools but so far this is my favourite. I felt comfortable to practice speaking because the teachers were so lovely and patient and I really felt like I improved my confidence and skills with communicating in Spanish. Leti and Jesus were lovely teachers, and Ana was a great substitute.

All three teachers I met in Academia Hispanica in Cordoba were good or excellent (and I have experience with four other escuelas de idiomas en Spain in the previous four years). Location and facililties suited well our needs. No complaints at all. No additional activities were offered, probably due to very small number of students devoting their summer to learning Spanish. This time, for the first time in my life, I decided to risk and use a housing offer provided by the school. I could not have more luck. Rosa A. was a great host an the housing conditions, location were perfect. Her tradicional meals deserve at least one Michelin star!

He disfrutado las clases en un grupo pero fue un poco frustrante que no empezamos al mismo tiempo o nivel. Al final he aprendido muchísimas cosas y tengo ganas a resumir mi education en español en el futuro.

I enjoyed the classes very much, because my teacher was really kind, patient and adjusted the classes to my individual needs. I feel that my Spanish has improved and that I have more courage to communicate in Spanish due to the course. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience, a game changer in my Spanish studies.
Show details » Read more...I spent the month of February, 2022 in Cordoba studying Spanish at the Academia Hispanica IH. I was thoroughly impressed by the organization of the program and by the quality of the instruction. There were few other students at this time of year and, as a result, I had one on one classes with both of my instructors (grammar and conversation). We covered nearly a year's worth of material in four weeks and my knowledge of Spanish expanded accordingly. My only regret is that I was working at the same time as studying and could not devote more of my time to reviewing and practicing what we had covered in class. I would definitely consider returning to Cordoba for further instruction or join an online class offered by this fine institution.

My teacher Ana was friendly and supportive and I learnt so much with her. It was easy to be flexible and arrange my lessons/times with her directly. The course material was diverse including reading, writing, games and speaking. The communication beforehand via email from Omar was excellent and I felt well prepared before starting my course. As I was studying outside of normal curriculum time, I was the only student in my class so the 1:1 teaching was great. Being the only student, I did not experience any social activities/trips with the school. I cannot comment on accommodation as I did not require any accommodation provided by the school as I was staying with family. I would really recommend the school and I will hopefully be back to continue learning Spanish with Ana in the future! Thank you.

I was met and introduced to the school by helpful staff (who knew I was coming!) and I had two teachers - both of whom were excellent. There were no other students so all my classes were 1-2-1 which was good value for the fee although quite exhausting as a student. The teaching was high quality and the staff were very nice and clearly made an effort. i would certainly recommend this school - it is well run, professional and the staff are cheerful, enthusiastic and know what they are doing.

The school is well-situated and attractive (flowers, clean, bright).
The teachers were agreeable, patient, organised.
I expected to be in a group but benefited from one-to-one classes (in the absence of other students during this holiday period). This permitted me to recover a B1 level in one week, after several years without exposure to Spanish, which was an unexpected bonus.
There is nothing not to like.
The internet site might be improved.
The Academia Hispanica is a great place to learn foreign languages. They have well-equipped classrooms in the city center, friendly and professional teachers, and cultural and historical discovery activities.

Only the room where I stayed was less than expected -- I had no window, so no air circulation and I ended up buying a fan which succeeded in merely stirring the heat. The school, however, had AC and was always pleasant!

I learned a lot and they were very patient, with lots of individual attention. The staff at the school went out of their way to make the students feel at home and to show us all that Cordoba has to offer. Cordoba itself is just exquisite--a truly enchanting city. I couldn't have been happier and, overall, my trip to Cordoba was a fantastic experience.
