A review of the Cooking and German language in home stay.
Over all I would give the experience a 3 out of 10. None of that reflects on the instructor or the premises. Most of the low scores lay at the feet of Language International.
We discovered this course while searching for a cooking class and we had always made it clear that Cooking was our primary interest.
We had been told that the course was for a week, then that it was for 5 days. The actual experience was 2 days and 2 half days. When we spoke with our hosts on arrival we were informed that we could have started 2 days earlier. We could have done that, had we known.
Our language instructor was excellent; helpful, well prepared as a language teacher. He was not in his area of expertise as a cooking instructor. The night trip to Potsdam with him was possibly the high point of the visit. He had not been told there was a cooking aspect to our visit until very late, thus he had not been able to prepare for this.
The premises were nice, clean, well prepared. All that we would have in a home stay.
The location of my Learn German experience was quite good, in Kreuzberg in Berlin. I lived with my teacher and his wife as well as a couple of exchange students who were not often at home. Through both grammar lessons and informal conversation I began to improve my German skills, and it was wonderful to be included in family activities such as trips to markets, swimming pools, and parties! This was so much better than simply attending classes and living on my own would have been. Thank you for a great program!
