SECGTO does not hold classes on the holiday dates below. The school does not compensate for these holidays, so make sure to choose your start date accordingly.
The school is located in Marfil, 15 minutes from downtown Guanajuato. The school is surrounded by old mining estates. A peaceful place where neighbors gather to take walks or ride their bicycles through the old Marfil road. The little town´s restaurants are well known and busy.
The school and the homestay were really good, it would have been nice to have more field trips with school, like classroom in the morning and excursions in the afternoon. I was initially told that's how the schedule was but we stayed on site all day.

Show details » Read more...I was in Guanajuato during the Easter holiday. The streets were full of Mexican tourist, street performers, parades and more. Many businesses were not open, but most of the activities we wanted to do were accessible.
The teachers were great! I did the executive program, which is 40 hours/week. Every day started with three hours of classroom oriented work memorizing and practicing verbs...which made my brain hurt. The second two hours was a little less structured and included discussions and provided some more contextual instruction, and the last 3 hours were conversation/dialogue oriented. Because of the holiday, there was no one else there, so they teachers tailored classes as we went and we did a lot of the conversation classes out in the city, visiting museums and other sites of interest.
The old portion of Guanajuato is like a medieval European town with alleys, cobblestone streets. Be ready to walk and climb steep hills. There's tons of history to explore and most of it is within walking distance. The school is in Marfil, which is not very close to the old town. The school picked me up and took me home each day, so it was not a big deal.
There are lots of housing alternatives, and I ended up staying in a room that an older lady rented out in her house. This was very nice and I encourage people that are interested in this type of an arrangement to do this. Next time, though, I will probably stay in a hotel because I just need a little more private time to decompress after a busy day.
I can't think of anything that I did not like about the experience and would look forward to going back to this school again.
The classes met me at my level, the teachers were dynamic, interesting and invested, the facilites were exceptional.....colorful, organized and clean and a lot of space....outside and inside.
I did not like how far it was from where Ilive but the staff helped me with information and how to get there.

Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
