Course description

We offer Cambridge First (FCE), Cambridge Advanced (CAE), and Cambridge Proficiency (CPE). All students must sit a pre-test before they enrol to ensure they are ready to sit the exam. This allows the Academic Manger to see where students are making mistakes, and how best to support them during the course. Morning classes focus on developing language awareness, accuracy, and confidence in speaking. Afternoon classes focus specifically on Cambridge exam skills, strategies, and timed practice. Basil Paterson College students can then take their final exam in a familiar environment.

The course is intensive, and students should expect a lot of homework, both in the evenings and weekends.

The exam test centre is onsite and exams can be booked through our website.

The course follows the same structure as the Octorial programme in the morning. The afternoon classes are as follows:

Exam Strategies + Skills, ten hours per week:
This class looks at the format, requirements, and assessment criteria of the Cambridge Exam. Each afternoon the students will focus on strategies for the different parts of the exam along with language work, including vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary for the exam. The teacher will make sure the students know what is required and what to expect on exam day. They will recommend strategies to help students succeed in the different parts of the exam and set homework to allow students to consolidate what they have learned.
The second hour in the afternoon is dedicated to timed exam practice, followed by self-assessment, peer assessment and teacher feedback. This class allows students to apply the strategies discussed in the previous class, develop skills for success under exam conditions, evaluate their own work, and develop effective self-study techniques.

Living in a homestay has many advantages. Most importantly, you have the chance to practise English
throughout your stay, to make friends with local people and to be immersed in the culture and language.
We choose our homestay families very carefully, both for the facilities they have to offer and,
especially, their abilities to give you the warmth and welcome of a “home from home”.
Your homestay will treat you as a full member of the household, eating together and sharing the
common living areas. You are provided with a single room, or shared room if required, a quiet place for

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from BP. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
