Sorrento is located in Campania in southern Italy. It is known for its steep cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples with views of Mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri. Students lucky enough to be enrolled in Italian school in Sorrento will instantly be enthralled with scenic beauty of this place. From the fragrant citrus groves to the views along the Amalfi Drive connecting Sorrento and Amalfi, the city is a treat for the senses. Visitors to Sorrento will find that the city has roots dating back to ancient Roman times. A visit to the Museum Correale di Terranova offers a glimpse into the past with its displays of both Roman and Greek artifacts. It also houses some Neapolitan paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Be sure to spend time in the gardens outside the museum to enjoy both the beauty of the gardens and the views across the Gulf of Naples. Students taking Italian courses in Sorrento might also enjoy spending some of their free time along the Corso Italia where they can stroll through an interesting mix of shops, pick up some groceries, or stop at a café for a delicious cup of coffee.
