I absolutely LOVE this school. The teachers, out of class excursions, and classes were a perfect fit for me. Meeting people from all over the world with one common goal was incredible. I felt like part of a family more than a student. The entire faculty is there to help at all times, and welcomes you every morning with a smile and a huge BOURNGIORNO! I HIGHLY recommend the school if you are thinking of starting your Italian language journey or just want to improve your skills. It is also a wonderful way to explore the Italian culture through cooking classes, visits to nearby small cities, and conversation everyday in class. The activities are professionally organized by the school, and easy to sign up beforehand. VERY organized. I will return this Fall and cannot wait! An added plus is, the city of Arezzo is amazing! History, culture, fabulous restaurants, and shopping too. The train station is so easy and in the heart of the city center. From there it is easy to take a train or bus to the cities nearby, or other major cities like Rome or Florence. .Sometimes after school in the afternoon, I would hop on the train to explore cities and be back for dinner!
Cannot think of one negative thing about my incredible 6 week experience!
Arezzo is a wonderful place to study Italian. It is beautiful, historic, full of wonderful art and not at all full of tourists. It is a hill town and for anyone who struggles with walking, they should know this in advance.
The school is on the second floor of small office building and is made up of only 4 classrooms. When I was there, there were only 6 students, 2 teachers as well as the direttoressa, Paola, who was the teacher for my private classes.
The activities were limited and because the school is so small, there are no choices, only one activity an afternoon one can sign up for or not. The week I attended, the cooking class was cancelled due to ill health on the part of the chef, and though I was offered another option, it was extraordinarily expensive.
I stayed in a beautiful l apartment with a wonderful couple. I asked for immersion in my housing and that was a huge success.
I was led though to think that there might be more english spoken, which was not the case. For someone else, this could have been frustrating.
The 6 other students, who I met in the afternoons were lovely. Again, the size of the school was a surprise and a disappointment.
That said, and although I was disappointed that my lessons were from xerox copies and not even a whole book (maybe you have to pay for 2 weeks to get one) the time with Paola was much about conversation and so in that, the week was a success for me.
