Summer German Course in Vienna
The summer course in Vienna takes place in the Jugendgästehaus Wien-Brigittenau, near the Danube and the Danube Island. The classrooms are located in the same building where the students are accommodated. Thus, the students have only short distances to class and do not have to leave the building.
Intensive courses
In almost all youth centers we teach intensive German courses with 30 lessons per week. The lessons are designed and created especially for young people: They are interactive and fun, yet challenging and very effective.
Language levels
In Vienna, we offer German courses for language levels A1 to B2 according to the Common European Framework of References for Languages
Class Size
Our classes consist of approx. 10 students. Such a small size ensures that individual attention is given to every single course participant. As we focus very much on the communicative approach of the language, while not neglecting grammar, we give heed to make every student talk and participate.
Tests
All course participants take a weekly exam which covers all the course content taught the preceding week so that students and teachers alike can assess the progress made in the German language.
Homework
Our students are also expected to do some homework every day, yet they will still have plenty of time for extracurricular activites.

Vienna - wide variety of attractions
Vienna, the city with the highest quality of life in the world, unites tradition and modernity in its own unique way. With 1.7 million inhabitants, Vienna is both Austria’s capital and its largest city – and the site of the first Humboldt-Institut program in neighboring Austria. Not only is it home to an exceptionally charming dialect of German, Vienna also offers what may be the world’s finest cultural scene: besides the old city and Schönbrunn Palace, both of which are UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, Vienna also boasts countless royal residences and palaces, museums, famous buildings and landmarks, the most internationally known of which are St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Ferris wheel in Prater park. Coffeehouses, Sachertorte, Wiener Schnitzel and the Naschmarkt: architectural monuments are not all that Vienna has to offer – the city’s wide variety of attractions cater to every taste!
Experience at Humboldt School has been constructive. Teachers have ease in communication, everything seems simple. Courses are complex in content. The location in Düsseldorf has been optimally placed, with quick access to public transport and a beautiful natural environment, very close to the Rhine River. Complex activities alternate with the rest program.

The hostel was nice, although my first roommate wasn’t great but the staff was able to move me to a new room and I’m very grateful for that. The hostel food was good and they had a nice variety to choose from. Lunch was alright, but they would run out of the good food and we would be left with some questionable option. The boat looked identical to a real high school- I forgot that I was on a boat sometimes! Classes were good and again I wasn’t happy in my first class (A1, it was very slow to me), but the staff halped me move to a higher class and there I was happier. I do believe my German improved- I now know the basics- but I was expecting it to be a little better from the name “intensive”. With the other students we mostly spoke English, just because we were all at different levels and it was hard to hold conversations for most of us. Most of the activities were fun, although it always seemed like the staff were a bit underprepared. My favorite activity was the ropes course we did one weekend. I wish we had more free time to explore for ourselves in the city because usually they only gave us an hour or two, which went by quickly. I was expecting us to have a bit more freedom from the description, but overall it was a fun program!
