"A very good experience, competent and friendly staff."

Kirsti Stylman, student from Finland

The location of the scholl was great and the staff was very helpfull and friendly. The tuition was, as expected, also very good, the teacher was competent and gave accurate and positive feedback, always with a smile. I got a lot more confidence to speak German, and the teacher also helped me with the grammar. Those were my main goals, so naturally I was happy with the course.

"Excellent school, excellent housing, unforgettable experience"

Christine Pierron, student from France

We were only two people in the group, so the lessons were reduced as announced; however I had the feeling that I got much during the lessons. It was quite intense. I never got bored because the activities were diverse: a lot of conversation, reading, grammar training. What I appreciated the most, was how the teacher adapted the lessons to our difficulties: for example I had problems using the German prepositions and the teacher took some time to explain them again to me. With our teacher, we also had a trip to 'Stille Nacht Museum', which was a wonderful idea and another opportunity to practice our German language. The school is easy to find, in a very beautiful street in the old Salzburg. I absolutely recommend this school and I intend to plan a longer stay during another holiday - in Salzburg or another city, but with inlingua again.
The host family was very friendly. The house was spacious. And I had wonderful diners with the family!
I visited Salzburg. At the end of November, the weather is really cold but I had the opportunity to visit the Christmas markets and Christkind market. It was great!

"Learning"

María Belen Mejia, student from Peru

I love the school location, I go on foot every day and is so wonderful to enjoy the lovely views of this marvelous city.

This time I was very luck because on my first Week we were only two students and the second week I was the only one,so I could take advantage of this enormous luck.

Our teacher Eva was the best I had in Inlingua so far (this is my 3rd time). She was very didactic and she made my 2 to 3 hours period very entertained and busy.

The staff that work in Inlingua Salzburg was very welcoming with me, they remembered me from before and I felt “at home” by them.
The facilities, like the classrooms are very good, specially for the different sizes they have for different number of students.

"Great location and very friendly staff"

Michael Clarke, student from UK

I enjoyed joining the course in Salzburg for one week.
Naturally, it was just a quick brushing-up of my German. I spoke far more with the lady in whose flat I stayed for the week and this improved my fluency and confidence greatly.

I was also extra fortunate in managing to get a ticket for a concert at the Salzburg festival.

The group was nice and small- just five of us in all. I found the first four days a little bit boring at times, as there seemed to be no real structure to the session, just talking and dealing with what came up in the course of the discussion. There was a small amount of work involving the text book.

In the final day we had a replacement teacher and this was what I was expecting. We were worked very thoroughly and encouraged to ask each other questions covering various grammatical aspects. We really felt as if we’d done some hard work. We played language games as well and after a short break finished with a great game of Tabu. This last day was definitely the most productive and useful.
My host for the week, Sylvia Schneider, could not have been kinder or more patient. She collected me from the station on the day before the course and took me back on the last morning. She even brought me in to town on the first morning as well. When I arrived in Salzburg, Sylvia took me round the city explaining bus routes and stops and really made me welcome. She even baked fresh Apfel strudel for me - a real Austrian treat! Sylvia also helped me book my ticket for the festival and we shared a glass of wine each evening on her terrace. I cannot thank her or praise her more highly for the service she gave. Please thank her most sincerely for me.

"I learned passive tense in German."

Johanna Kristoffersson, student from Sweden

It was alright. The school was situated nicely in the city centre, the group was small and I had some fun. It would have been more useful if there would have been more focus on written communication than on grammar, since I will have to pass an exam in writing in some weeks.

"I did enjoy the German course. My goal was successfully accomplished."

Emil Szewczyk, student from Switzerland

All good, with no major complaints. The only points to be taken into consideration are:

1) i found classes of two students one teacher to small, (specially if this leads to reduction of the hours by 30 proc) learning in small groups is good but groups with 2 or less are too small.

2) learning Materials are good but not perfect. material you deliver it is a good starting point, however have impression you did not much to make the learning simpler. (at least not for me)

3) more after school activities is recommendable (not saying to organised, but at least to facilitate)

Karin Ingela Wiese, student from Austria

Our class was small, just four pupils. We talked a lot and I manage to get rid of a lot of my anxiety in speaking German.
The schedules were a bit strange. I would prefer a longer break for lunch. I liked the teachers.

"I had a blissful and unforgettable time in Salzburg this August."

和夫 (Kazuo) 山口 (yamaguchi), student from Japan

I would like to express my deepest thanks for your very good preparation of my study condition at Salzburg. Studying German in inlingua Salzburg was much better than I have expected in Japan.

I must confess that I wanted to go to the Salzburg music festival this August. During the season, the concerts and operas are usually performed at night time. Thus, I had plenty of time in the morning and afternoon. I was confused on how to spend this time before the concerts. I realized that I could learn German during this time, as I was in a German-speaking country. So far, I have learned German for twenty years in Japan. I was not as eager to learn German during those days. I felt it was a good idea to learn German in a German language school in Salzburg before going to concerts.
At first, my priority was to go to concerts, but the situation dramatically changed. The first priority became to learn German, thanks to the attractive German school lectures and teachers.

The most impressive things are the following:
1. The class is decided according to two weeks class.
2. Our teacher taught always kindly and eagerly
3. Our teacher always made preparations for home work and checked politely. This was very helpful.
4. We students could speak in German well with each other.
5. My home stay residence was very excellent. I could have meals with other students while speaking German.
6. My home stay residence was located in the convenient resident's area. I could go back home by walking.
7. The manager was always controlling how the class was running, and was very kind.

I would like to let my friends know about this school.

Postscript:
I am a member of the Toastmasters club in Hiroshima, Japan. Toastmasters club is an international speaking English club. Fortunately, I was able to atten the Toastmasters clubs in Salzburg and Wien. I made a speech in German while at Salzburg, and in English while at Wien. I was very well welcomed by both clubs and I was very pleased to attend.

"Lots of speaking, with good help"

Annemiek Macleane - van Deursen, student from Netherlands

There were lots of individual attention given to us for speaking and improving the language. Nadine was a great teacher. She was very passionate about teaching the language to the people. Brigitte was also a good teacher, but with her I felt a bit lost sometimes. She lacked a bit of structure in her lessons. The location was okay.

"Learning german for every day"

Guilherme Saltini, student from Brazil

Deciding to go somewhere in the world to learn a language for a long time can be uncertain at first. I booked a 20-week course without even knowing how the school was. I'd already been to Salzburg on holiday and had fallen in love with the city.
Inlingua Salzburg offers you everything you could possibly need to learn German in a fun and dynamic way: amazing teachers, small groups of students and two, more than capable managers that do their best to place you correctly and make sure that your experience is the best possible. The book they use is produced by Inlingua and brings a variety of themes and conversation points intertwined with grammar. The classes focus on speaking skills, which in a language like German is really helpful. The teachers can accurately point out your weaknesses and help you improve your skills, with patience. During class - and as homework - there are listening, reading and grammar activities. The environment is really pleasant and everybody is open to listening to your opinions. The school offers free internet access and every week a free time activity with students from different levels, which is good for getting to know others and the city.
Regarding the host family, I can only say that I was lucky to meet these people. During my time in Salzburg I've realized that the people that live in the city are very, very polite and even if you speak terrible German they will try to understand you and help you. With the host family it was not any different. The accommodations were more than I could hope for and the possibility to speak with them improved my language skills a lot. My host lady is more than patient and asks you whether you'd like her to correct you or not. When you decide that she should, she points it out and helps you with pronunciation and grammar.
Overall I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience, and I'm more than eager to come back and meet everybody again. If you're looking to learn German, Inlingua Salzburg is one of your best options - also for the fact that in the city people don't speak much dialect, so what you learn in school is what you hear every day.

Have questions? Get answers from inlingua Salzburg staff, Language International student advisors, and past students.

Ask a question

"What is the usual schedule for beginner's courses?"

Arturo Catalano Gonzaga, student from Italy
Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

Beginner’s courses are usually scheduled earlier in the morning.

Was this helpful? Yes

"The student wants to enroll in this course for just one week, but on your school profile you indicate a minimum duration of 2 weeks. Is the course available for just 1 week?"

Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

The minimum duration for a group course is 2 weeks: from the pedagogical point of view 1 week does not make sense.

Was this helpful? Yes

"Is there a possibility she can go to the school to take the test?"

andrea bertes, student from Italy
Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

Certainly it is possible to do the placement test here at our school. Then we also can take the oral placement test.

Was this helpful? Yes

"In case of Private lessons would there be any activities the student can join? Could you offer some further activities in this case?"

Katrin katrin, student from Germany
Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

There will be one planned activity per week free of charge. Any additional activity with a teacher must be charged.
The majority of our students have personal plans about how to get to know the city and thus plan their activities themselves.

Was this helpful? Yes

"Are there any teachers that speak Romanian or Russian to help the student?"

Dyan Test, student from USA
Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

No, our teachers speak the target language only i.e. German teacher = German (worldwide inlingua standard!) We have more than 40 years of experience with our method and we know it works, with any student! We are used to communicate with beginner’s (also regarding administration) so the client does not need to worry!

Was this helpful? Yes

"1. One of them plays clarinete so he will have to practice in his room, ¿would that be a problem for the family? 2. Does the room have private bathroom? Can they use the kitchen? 3. These family is from Venezuela. They are living in Oman at the moment. So here is the question: if they decide to extend their course and stay more than 90 days in Austria they will need a visa D. As far as I know, they can apply for visa D if their stay does not exceed 180 days. If the stay exceeds 180 days they need a „Residence Permit – Students“ with a conditional admission from one of these institution: University/Technical College/Accredited private university, a College of Education or an accredited private degree programme. Is that correct? 4. Do you know if it is possible to apply for a visa D directly in Austria? As i mentioned they live in Oman now, so how would be the procedure for visa D application?"

Martin Reichmayr, inlingua Salzburg school representative

1. It is certainly no problem, to practice clarinete at the hostfamily.
2. Unfortunately they do not have their own bathroom and it is not possible to use the kitchen. However, students can book also halfboard with this hostfamily. In case they would like to have their own bathroom and kitchen, we recommend to book an appartment.
3. Visa:
Correct, if they decide to stay longer than 90 days, they have to apply for VISA D (91 days – 6 months).
If they want to stay longer than 6 monts, they have to apply for a Student’s visa.
4. It is not possible to apply for any VISA in Austria, they have to travel to a "non-Schengen" country (e.g. Serbia) and
provide the Embassy or Consulate with all documents and additional authorizations required; otherwise, the visa will not be issued.
The next Austrian Embassy from OMAN is Saudi Arabia:
