Qalam wa Lawh was an excellent institute to study the Arabic language, and I did enjoy my time there. Prior to my enrollment in the program, my language skills were somewhat at the beginner level. However, upon completion, I do feel an immense improvement in my Arabic studies. Also, the extra-curricular activities provided by the institute served as an important resource to help boost the Arabic language skills of students.
Some pros of studying at this institute are: it is situated in the safest city in Morocco, Rabat, the institute has some paid excursions or trips that allow students to explore other parts of the country, and lastly, the staff are willing and dedicated to helping students learn and practice the Arabic language.
On the contrary, one thing I disliked about studying Arabic in Morocco that the institute has no control over was the difficulties of implementing or practicing Fusha Arabic outside class. This is due to most locals usually prefer to express themselves in their local dialect, Darija or French. Finally, housing with a host family which I did in Morocco is a hit-or-miss, i.e., some students had a great family and others not.
Dear Obodai, thank you so much for your positive review and recommendation. We are delighted that you enjoyed your Arabic classes and activities and saw a remarkable improvement in your Arabic proficiency.
Most locals in the Arab world speak their local dialect in informal situations and revert to either Standard Arabic or a foreign language (English, French, ...) to communicate formally depending on the situation. Some native Arabic speakers tend to switch to a foreign language with the intention to accommodate non-native speakers which can sometimes be counterproductive for Arabic learners. The solution is to simply let them know that you wish to communicate in Arabic only.
We'd also like to hear from you regarding your host family experience. We choose families carefully to ensure that they can provide a safe, immersive, and comfortable environment for our students. Please contact us via e-mail to provide more details and help us improve the service.
We thank you for choosing Qalam wa Lawh and for taking the time to submit your valuable feedback. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to more advanced courses.
Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying Arabic in Rabat. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
Student residences are more suitable for an independent student, who is looking for clean, basic accommodation at an economic price. All students must be 16 - 80.
