Surf South West is proud to be holders of ‘Centre of Excellence’ status by Surfing England, the sport’s governing body. This is the highest level attainable and is awarded in recognition that Surf South West has the highest standards of coaching. Surf South West has also been awarded Surf School of the Year by the UK Pro Surf Association. They are also holders of the Green Tourism Gold Award for our commitment to sustainability and the environment.
Students will:
Follow the British Surfing Association Junior Athletes award scheme using qualified and experienced surfing instructors and beach lifeguards.
Learn to surf or improve their skills at the nearby Croyde beach.
Learn and develop techniques for paddling, reading and catching waves, standing up and controlling the board.
Improve confidence in the water and learn specialist surfing vocabulary.
The surfing programme includes one full day excursion and at least three evening activities taken from the Discovering Devon Programme.

Our school is the headquarters of Country Cousins and is situated within the green flag award-winning Bicclescombe Park, in the picturesque harbour town of Ilfracombe, North Devon. In the surrounding areas, we enjoy golden sandy beaches perfect for rock-pooling, swimming and surfing, dramatic coastlines, rugged moors and verdant valleys.
We have 14 well-equipped classrooms and provide a high level of teaching and learning using a variety of methods and materials. Channel School of English is open all year round for groups and during Easter and summer for individuals. Our class sizes are an average of 12 students (maximum class is 15) and are mixed nationality wherever possible to increase English speaking opportunities.

The class where quite good the teachers, the location I didn’t like the location, the facilities where so relaxing, in the activities they could put football , I love the housing.

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from . Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.
If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
